Coarctation of the aorta complicated by patency of the ductus arteriosus; physiologic considerations in the classification of coarctation of the aorta.

چکیده
The study of the anatomic and hemodynamic relationships in a case of coaretation of the aorta complicated by patency of the ductus arteriosus and pulmonary hypertension indicated the necessity for a physiologic approach to the classification of coarctation of the aorta. The origin of existing classifications has been briefly traced and basic anatomic and physiologic considerations in this malformation have been reviewed. A classification is presented which takes into account the state of the ductus arteriosus, its relationship to the coareted segment and the influence of the collateral circulation. The microscopic appearance of the pulmonary vessels is included.

متن کاملBALLOON ANGIOPLASTY IN NATIVE AORTIC COARCTATION: RESULT S IN SHIRAZ AND REVIEW OF ARTICLES
Balloon angioplasty for aortic coarctation was introduced in 1979 for the fust time.1 This procedure soon became the choice treatment for restenosis of operated coarctation,2-5 but remains controversial for native (unoperated) coarctation. However, it seems to be rapidly becoming the intervention of choice for relief of unoperated coarctation as well. In this study, we evaluate the outcome ...
متن کاملClinical, Pathologic, and Hemodynamic Considerations
IN COARCTATION of the aorta, the coexistence of a defect of the ventricular septum tends to prevent development of hypertension in the upper systemic circulation by permitting blood from the left ventricle to pass into the pulmonary circulation. This tendency is accentuated but not fundamentally altered if there is also a patent ductus arteriosus opening into the aorta proximal to the coarctati...

The combination of patent (luctus arteriosus land coarctation of the aorta poses special anatomic, physiologic and surgical proldems. An experience with 14 such cases is presented, wVhich suggests that pulmonary hypertension occurs frequently in these cases. Physiologic data in cases having coarctation of the aorta, patent (luctus arteriosus and pulmonary hypertension that underwent cardiac cat...
